Excerpt from the HIPERFACE DSLŪ specification for encoder status 1 (ENC_ST1, Adresse 41h) bit 2:
Multiturn sensor synchronization was erroneous.
Potential cause(s): encoder reached end of lifetime, hardware faults, magnet (clip) faults or gear wear-out.
NOTE: A multiturn synchronization diagnostic cannot reliably detect gear synchronization faults over extended time.
After first indication of this fault gear synchronization can wear out even more and result in undetected false position output.
