Controller Tuning Visual Help (Drive Trace)

A new page has been added to support the tuning of relevant controllers (Drive Speed Controller, Minimum Pressure Controller, Injection Speed and Pressure Controllers, etc.). The newly introduced fixed page “Drive Trace” is available in TrunkUF1 and Trunk Firmware and can be accessed via Servopump > DriveTrace (Drive Parameter > Drive Trace for trunk Version).

Depending on the selected machine type, different predefined trace settings are available to assist in tuning the controllers. The following section provides a brief documentation of this page, including screenshots of the functionality for the TEA5 and DLA5 machine types.

TEA5

For the TEA5 machine, three different trace settings are available (Drive Speed, Holdon Pressure, and Back Pressure). Selecting one of these presets automatically adjusts the Axis, Pump, and Trigger settings accordingly and activates an input field for the relevant controller parameters.

Setting Drive Speed

In this setting, the controller parameters of the drive’s speed controller, as well as the torque limits, are displayed. The traces show the commanded and actual motor speed in the first row, the set pressure and actual pressure of the selected axis (e.g., Mold in the figure) in the second row, and the torque in percent in the third row.

Setting Holdon Pressure

In this setting, the controller parameters of the hold-on pressure controller (Kp, Ki, Kd), as well as the hold-on pressure ramp, are displayed.
The traces show the set and actual injection axis velocity in the first row, the set and actual pressure of the injection axis in the second row, and the stroke of the injection axis in the third row.

Setting Back Pressure

In this setting, the controller parameters of the back pressure controller are displayed at the top. The traces show the set and actual axis velocity of the injection axis in the first row, the set and actual pressure in the second row, and the stroke of the injection axis during plasticizing in the third row.

DLA5

For the DLA5 machine, five different trace settings are available (Drive Speed, Minimum Pressure, Mold, Injection, Holdon Pressure, and Back Pressure). Selecting one of these presets automatically adjusts the Axis, Pump, and Trigger settings accordingly and enables an input field for the relevant controller parameters.

Setting Drive Speed

In this setting, the controller parameters of the servo pump speed controller are displayed. The traces show the commanded and actual motor speed in the first row, the set pressure and actual pressure of the selected axis (e.g., Mold in the figure) in the second row, and the torque in percent in the third row.

Setting Min. Pressure

In this setting, the parameters of the minimum pressure controller for both standstill and movement of the selected pump are displayed, along with the set value of the minimum pressure.
It operates in a roll mode, where the first row shows the actual speed of the servo pump and the second row shows the actual pressure of the servo pump.

Setting Mold

In this setting, the parameters of the pressure controller of the selected servo pump for clamp movement and tonnage pressure buildup are displayed.
To support tuning of the feedforward signal, the maximum velocity and the motor velocity at maximum velocity are also shown for both mold opening and mold closing.
These parameters are additionally displayed in setting mode, allowing tuning at different speeds and pressures and enabling flexible adjustment of movement speeds during setup.

The traces show the set and actual velocities of the mold axis in the first row, the set and actual pressure of the mold axis in the second row, and the actual servo pump speed in the third row.

Setting Injection

In this setting, the controller parameters of the injection pressure controller, as well as the parameters for the feedforward control of the injection axis velocity controller, are displayed. When Closed Loop control is selected, the PID parameters of the closed-loop velocity controller are shown; these parameters are hidden when open-loop injection velocity control is selected. The setting-mode speed and pressure values are also displayed to support tuning at varying speeds and pressures during controller adjustment.

The traces show the set and actual velocity of the injection axis during movements in the negative direction in the first row. The second row displays the set and actual pressure, and the third row shows the actual speed of the servo pump.

Setting Holdon Pressure

In this setting, the controller parameters of the pressure controller for the selected pump during the hold-on phase are displayed. The traces show the set and actual velocities of the injection axis in the first row, the set and actual pressure of the injection axis in the second row, and the stroke of the injection axis in the third row.

Setting Back Pressure

In this setting, the controller parameters of the back pressure controller are displayed when closed-loop back pressure control is selected and are hidden when open-loop back pressure control is used.
The traces show the set and actual velocity of the injection axis during plasticizing (positive movement) in the first row, the set and actual pressure in the second row, and the stroke of the injection axis in the third row.
